SXSW 2011: Stills and poster from APART » GordonandtheWhale.com

Check it! Gordon and the Whale call the poster I made for Apart “thoroughly lovely.” Aw, shucks! The film itself gets a good little write-up, too, although for the moment everyone’s keeping mum about details, as they should. If you’re attending SXSW this year, try to get yourself into a screening. You’ll be glad you did!

Pool + Bowling = Knokkers!
I think I designed that logo! Or anyway, someone I worked with at The Designory LA did. How random!
poster designed by me (Brandon Bernard) a couple years back as part of a pitch the Designory LA began but eventually pulled the plug on. Too bad, as I thought the movie was good, and I was proud to be trying to promote it.
A couple years back, when I was working at the Designory LA (oddly enough in Glendale), I worked on the company’s pitch for the 81st annual Academy Awards promotional campaign. Faced with flagging viewership and a growing sense of irrelevancy, the client brief compelled agencies to find a way to make the Oscars seem less stuffy and more hip, particularly to that most-coveted of demographics: young people.

I wasn’t personally at the pitch, but from what I understand we were one of three agencies bidding for the account. In the end, we lost it to someone else, whose poster looked uncomfortably identical to a design that one of our own designers had done for our pitch!

Anyway, the above were my contributions to our ill-fated presentation…
This is one of my favorite Eames quotes, so I set it in the Eames Century Modern typeface from House Industries that my girlfriend and her mother gave me for Christmas. The photo is one I took of a detail of the Eames House in Southern California.
I still have 18 of these signed and numbered prints for sale at my store, St. BernART. At a mere $10 a pop, they’re a steal, so get one for yourself and that Jules Verne/steampunk/literature/nautical enthusiast on your holiday shopping list!

Simply visit StBernardsPass and click on the red “store” button at the top to place your order. But hurry: whatever remains after the 1st of the year will be sold off on Etsy, and will have to be slightly more expensive…
