My name is Brandon Bernard. I'm a graphic designer, storyboard and layout artist, and writer. I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, and lived in Los Angeles for 12 years. I'm currently in Austin, TX. "Design Intervention" is a virtual scrapbook of things that inspire me. Unless otherwise specified, the work here is not mine.

Happy New Year!
I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I’ve been feeling like a bit of a change here at Design Intervention. Tumblr has me sort of locked into the blog’s title, but I’ve decided that I want to post things here that fall outside of the “graphic design” category.
While I am still interested in graphic design, I find that my truer passions lie elsewhere. In fact, they’re kind of all over the place: music, art, writing, film… I want my blog here on Tumblr to better accomodate my varied interests. I’m not sure yet how this will ultimately manifest on the blog, but don’t be surprised if you start seeing stuff on here that isn’t what you’re used to seeing. I hope that all of the followers I’ve accrued over the past couple years will stay with me, but if graphic design inspiration was the only reason you followed in the first place, I completely understand.
As always — in fact, more than ever — I encourage anyone and everyone to interact with me through the “ask” feature on my blog. Likes and reblogs are always appreciated, too, but I would love to have a little more interaction with my Tumblr network.
I hope everyone had a great holiday, and is looking forward to 2013 as much as I am!
Cheers,
Brandon
Hi, followers! I wanted to announce a new blog that I created on Tumblr called “Shell of the Nut: a microfiction brewery,” where I’ll be posting original works of short-short fiction (to those of you familiar with the term “flash fiction,” happy National Flash Fiction Day to you).
I’ll be continuing to share awesome graphic design here at Design Intervention, but The Shell is my way of satisfying my more literary urges, by posting stories you can easily start and finish reading while you wait for your coffee order to be up.
So swing by and check it out! I would love it if some of you followed my new blog.
And, by the way, constructive feedback — as well as submissions! — are encouraged. I look forward to hearing from the wordsmiths among you…
I missed last Tuesday, so here’s a double-shot for this week:

Admittedly, I wasn’t tumbling back when there was something called “The Tumblr Wire,” so I don’t really know what that was about. But so far, each time I visit Tumblr’s Directory-replacement, “Explore,” I just want to run the other direction. Those live updates are overwhelming, and I curiously don’t feel compelled to click on anything that’s whizzing by. It actually destroys any semblance of intimate community I have hoped to develop here, and replaces it with Macbeth’s “sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Also, I enjoyed having my entire blog classified as “graphic design,” so I didn’t have to tag every single post with that in order to be relevant. Instead, I could focus on more micro-tagging: whether something was typography or illustration, photography, vintage advertising, mid-century modernist furnishing, movie one-sheets, etc…

Maybe I’m jumping the gun. Tumblr’s Explore feature has just debuted. But so far I’m not a fan. It has an uphill battle to wage in order to win me over. But I’m curious, what do you think about it?
She hasn’t been posting from my queue since, like, Friday, and the directory appears to be all messed up. Grrr. Everything was going so well…!
It’s Tumblr Tuesday. So, if I can get just 10% of my wonderful followers to recommend me in the Designer’s category, I will post some awesome design stuff!

Yeah, okay, so I’m going to post some awesome design stuff anyway. Still. Whaddayasay?
How about a recommendation to help get 2011 off to a good start?
If you feel like I do, show your solidarity by recommending me in the “Designers” category.

I can’t guarantee it’ll make you feel any better, but it will sure ease my pain!
is your recommendation in the “Designers” category!

(It may be the least expensive gift you give this year…)
Last week was so brutal, I kind of feel like I need a Tumblr hug. By which, of course, I mean a recommendation!

How about it? Who’s got some love to spare?
