St. Bernard's Pass

My name is Brandon Bernard. I'm a graphic designer, storyboard and layout artist, and writer. I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, and lived in Los Angeles for 12 years, then in Austin, TX, for about a year, and I'm now in Brooklyn, NY. This blog is a virtual scrapbook of things that inspire me. Unless otherwise specified, the work here is not mine. Anything else you'd like to know? Feel free to hit up my "ask" box!

Design Intervention recently crossed the 2,000 followers mark, and you know what that means: time to introduce that auspicious two-thousandth follower.

Say hello to Screen Funk, a newish blog where you can hook up your iPhone or iPad with “groovy wallpapers from artists with near-perfect hand/eye coordination.” Looks like there may also be some groovy inspirational links, too!

Thanks so much for following me, Screen Funk! Welcome to DI.

    A big THANK YOU

to everyone who recommended me yesterday!

    Totally made my day…

The amazing work of Bobby McKenna.

…to those of you who recommended me yesterday! (Unfortunately, Tumblr doesn’t do a great job of letting me know who recommended me, or I would thank you all personally.)

M is for Monday. For the Romans, it was also for “one thousand,” which is how many followers I’m proud to be celebrating!

M is also for monkey, as in “I Love Flying Monkeys,” which is Design Intervention’s 1,000th follower! Over at iloveflyingmonkeys you can find packaging design, art, inspiration, photography, and “a random collection of things I like,” as the blog’s “about” section informs us. Check it out! And thanks for the follow, iloveflyingmonkeys — so do I.

In honor of this landmark, I’ll be posting a bunch of design related to Fritz Lang’s M and Metropolis. Enjoy!

This thank-you got to be so long overdue, I figured why not just save it until Halloween? So, a hearty TRICK-OR-TREAT!! to scheza, who is Design Intervention’s 900th follower!

"Scheza" is short for Scheherazade Tabancay, which must have been hell to learn how to spell when she was little, but might be the most fully awesome name ever! She hails from Hollister, California, and her blog is called "Bangg, Bangg, Boggiee!" You’ll find a variety of things at "Bangg, Bangg, Boggiee!" including — but not limited to — the Peanuts Gang dance (always welcome), Spongebob Squarepants (it’s hilarious that spellchecker has no problem with that name), internet memes, and design. Thank you so much for the follow, Scheherazade! Welcome to Design Intervention, and have a happy Halloween!

Well, there are evidently quite a few fans of the Dead Weather out there, and I was schooled several times on just who they are! Thanks, everybody, for the 4-1-1. I’ll have to check them out — they look a little hardcore for my music tastes (I’m a music-wuss) but I do like Jack White and the various enterprises he puts together, so.

One thing I can say for the Dead Weather, regardless of whether I end up jamming out to them on my iPod, is that their gig posters are top notch. So here’s another one, by way of thanks to everyone who took the time to scoop their jaws off the floor and educate me about the Dead Weather!

Well it’s embarrassing that it’s taken me this long to post this, but a while ago Design Intervention crossed the 800 followers mark. That happened around the time I was three weeks into my new job, and my girlfriend and I got a 3-month-old puppy. Oh, and we also had a house guest this past weekend. So, fiddling with my blog has sunk down to the bottom of my list of priorities just for the time being.

But I’m about to be celebrating my 900th follower, so I thought I had better pay proper respects to Jason Bernert at “Postcards From Young America" (Tumblr name: lilromper) for being #800. Jason posts music, videos, photos and design. Welcome to Design Intervention, Jason, and I hope you’ll accept my thanks for following as better late than never!

Meet Agent Seven Double-Oh, otherwise known as Dirk Petzold Illustrations. That’s right, DPi is DI’s 700th follower! The blog acts as a clearing-house for “standout graphic design, illustration artworks, paintings, photography, film and motion design” from various creative geniuses in general, but Dirk Petzold in specific. I figure if you’re here and you’re reading this, that’s probably enough said — I don’t need to tell you why you would enjoy clicking through to the blog and hitting that “follow” button…

    Thanks for the follow, DPi!

While I was in Chicago, Design Intervention clocked its 600th follower! It’s diego153, a designer in Toronto with hair that I will steal when he’s asleep. Diego also enjoys performing, producing music, exploring the world, and watching movies — and he’s got the hook-up for that, as a local video store clerk! Check him out. Diego, thanks for the follow! (Was the hair thing too creepy?)

After 10 months of trying to figure out what to do with my time, I am once again employed full-time. As a result, I think I’m going to have to abandon my linked shout-outs to new followers — but please know that I am still thrilled by each and every one, and very thankful for all of my followers, old and new! I’ll still try and make a little fanfare for landmark followers, so keep a lookout for #700, #800, #900…

    Why, hello there!

Thanks for following Design Intervention. Allow me to introduce my newest followers:

    Welcome, everyone!
