My name is Brandon Bernard. I'm a graphic designer, storyboard and layout artist, and writer. I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, and lived in Los Angeles for 12 years. I'm currently in Austin, TX. "Design Intervention" is a virtual scrapbook of things that inspire me. Unless otherwise specified, the work here is not mine.

Silver Age-Modern Age comic artist Jim Steranko is best known for his work on MArvel Comics titles like Nick Fury, Agent Of Shield and other books, but has also done some amazingly stylized Noir art, which began, in part, with color covers and interior black and whites for hard cover graphic novels for the golden age pulp heroine Domino Lady and Raymond Chandler graphic novelizations.
Love these!

Happy New Year!
I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I’ve been feeling like a bit of a change here at Design Intervention. Tumblr has me sort of locked into the blog’s title, but I’ve decided that I want to post things here that fall outside of the “graphic design” category.
While I am still interested in graphic design, I find that my truer passions lie elsewhere. In fact, they’re kind of all over the place: music, art, writing, film… I want my blog here on Tumblr to better accomodate my varied interests. I’m not sure yet how this will ultimately manifest on the blog, but don’t be surprised if you start seeing stuff on here that isn’t what you’re used to seeing. I hope that all of the followers I’ve accrued over the past couple years will stay with me, but if graphic design inspiration was the only reason you followed in the first place, I completely understand.
As always — in fact, more than ever — I encourage anyone and everyone to interact with me through the “ask” feature on my blog. Likes and reblogs are always appreciated, too, but I would love to have a little more interaction with my Tumblr network.
I hope everyone had a great holiday, and is looking forward to 2013 as much as I am!
Cheers,
Brandon
If anyone is interested, here’s the link to download my Fall Collection music mix, featuring tracks by the Shins, Ray LaMontagne, the Jam, Ben Howard, and Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra, among others. 20 tracks in all.
Sorry there’s no album artwork to go along with this; maybe for the next mix I put together.
Happy listening, and happy autumn!
Hey, followers! I’m researching communication design agencies, trying to see who’s out there that I really, really want to work for. I thought I would turn to you all, and ask:
What agencies/companies out there would you love to work for (or do work for)?
Recently (July 2nd), I moved out of L.A., where I have spent the last dozen or so years of my life. In August, I’m moving to Austin, TX, to do a 6-month long portfolio mentorship program. For the month of July, I’ll be cooling my heels in my hometown of Albuquerque, NM.

While I’ve been packing and shipping boxes and selling furniture and driving cross-country, I’ve sort of neglected my blog here at Tumblr, and my queue ran out! I’ll try to get some posts going again, but it may be a little hit and miss for the next few weeks until I can get a full head of steam up again.

Thanks for your patience!
Hi, followers! I wanted to announce a new blog that I created on Tumblr called “Shell of the Nut: a microfiction brewery,” where I’ll be posting original works of short-short fiction (to those of you familiar with the term “flash fiction,” happy National Flash Fiction Day to you).
I’ll be continuing to share awesome graphic design here at Design Intervention, but The Shell is my way of satisfying my more literary urges, by posting stories you can easily start and finish reading while you wait for your coffee order to be up.
So swing by and check it out! I would love it if some of you followed my new blog.
And, by the way, constructive feedback — as well as submissions! — are encouraged. I look forward to hearing from the wordsmiths among you…
swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer mike joyce, owner of stereotype design in new york city. drawing from his love of punk rock and swiss modernism, two movements that have absolutely nothing to do with one another, mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters.
Worth clicking through… Beautiful collection!
